Juliet Holmes à Court believes being an artist is about wrestling with shape, colour, composition and the sheer stuff of paint and how you learn to work it so it becomes your language to communicate. Pam Cowper studied at NAS, COFA and St George, majoring in sculpture, photography and painting. The winner of the Waverley Art Prize in 1996, she shows regularly at Defiance Gallery and her work is in interstate galleries and private collections. Pam is renowned for her patient and encouraging teaching style.






Max Lieberman is an Australian born painter. He divides his time between living and working in Australia and in India. Since 1993 Max has had over ten solo exhibitions, has taken part in numerous group shows and has won a number of painting awards. In 2004 he completed his Master of Fine Arts degree at the University of NSW. Max is currently represented by the Flinder's St Gallery in Sydney. He has taught art to children and adults at numerous institutions around Sydney.


Ochre Lawson has a BFA from National Art School and a Diploma of Fine Arts from Southbank Institute of Tafe in Brisbane. She has exhibited regularly in Brisbane, Alice Springs and Sydney in both painting, drawing and sculpture mediums. Ochre has also been included in the Defiance Small sculpture prize in Sydney for the last three years and is included in many private collections. Her own art practice evolves around themes of nature, the figure and animals, creating sculptures and mixed media drawings using a variety of materials including found objects, clay, wax, cement, paper pulp and paint. www.ochrelawson.com



Kevin McKay studied at National Art School where he recently earned his MFA in urban landscape painting. This was followed by a three-month scholarship in Rome and residency at Sydney Grammar School. He was a finalist in The Blake, The Mosman, The Paddington, and Plein-Air Painting Prizes in 2010, and won the the Sydney City of Villages Art Prize in 2009. He teaches tonal painting as the key to using colour to convey light.



Stavros Papantoniou studied at Julian Ashton for 4 yrs and COFA for 7 yrs. At WWAC since 1995, Stavros caters to students of classical realism through to contemporary abstracts. Continuously exhibiting, Stavros also escorts painting trips to Greece. He has vast experience in a diverse range of media including oils, acrylic, watercolour and egg tempera.



David Pavich has a BFA from NAS. At WWAC since 1997 and represented by Rex Livingston Art Dealer he has also exhibited throughout Europe. Awarded the Hill End studio residency and Bundanon Artist in residence, his classes are structured on traditional and expressive techniques in a relaxing and entertaining atmosphere with emphasis on developing each student’s individual style. www.davidpavich.com



Chris Rochester has a BFA from NAS majoring in painting. At WWAC since 2004, he also teaches at Currambena School. He has exhibited extensively and is in public and private collections. Chris is continually inspired by the teaching process and expounds the principles of life-long education and a student’s ability to learn independently.






Claire Stack has been a dedicated botanical artist since 2004 and is passionate about this precise art from. She has completed several botanical master classes and has been exhibiting annually at the “Botanica” exhibition at the Royal Botanic Gardens since 2007 and the Botanical Art Society of Australia’s annual exhibition since 2005. She won the Nora Heysen Art Prize at the Hunters Hill Art Show in 2007. She has also exhibited pen and ink scientific illustrations in the Margaret Flockton Award in 2007, 2009 and 2011. She looks forward to passing on her knowledge of botanic art to beginners and more experienced artists.



Ben Smith is a Sydney based artist. In 2010 he won the Waverley Art Prize, the Mosman Emerging Artist Award and the Odd Nerdrum Portrait Prize. He has been a finalist in numerous established art prizes across Australia, including the 2009 and 2010 Doug Moran Portrait Prize and the 2010 Sulman Prize. He has had two highly successful solo shows with Dickerson Gallery Sydney.



Bernadette Trela has completed Fine Arts degrees and Postgraduate studies at NAS, COFA and SCA. Her own painting focus is on modernist landscape in a contemporary context. Bernadette's teaching practice emphasises a variety and versatility of styles and her encouraging approach allows individual self-expression to emerge in a creative and inspired way.
